About this research opportunity
The Indigenous Health Equity Research Initiative (IHERI) team is a pioneering initiative that champions health equity for Indigenous populations. Recognizing the disproportionate health challenges faced by Indigenous peoples, IHERI uniquely integrates innovative research, policy advocacy, and community engagement as its core strategies. By honoring cultural traditions and knowledge, IHERI aims to foster a respectful and practical approach to addressing the multifaceted health issues encountered by Indigenous peoples.
This group-based research experience involves developing a searchable platform for the most relevant research regarding Indigenous populations' health concerns. The platform will present and display a repository of peer-reviewed evidence in an organized and standardized manner, optimally allowing healthcare professionals, researchers, decision-makers, and community members to understand the landscape and define strategies to address Indigenous peoples' and communities' most prevalent health concerns.
Students interested in pursuing research on Indigenous health will develop skill- and knowledge-building experience by participating in this project. The time commitment will be based on the number of credit hours (1-4) or volunteer hours (3-12 per week). The work will involve students helping with article reviews, analyzing key findings, and providing input on the platform's development as our team continues to build its interface.
